Project Description: 

The Babu Raja Flyover, a key initiative under Brunei’s 10th National Development Plan (RKN 10), plays a vital role in connecting Jalan Babu Raja and Jalan Ripas. Developed to ease severe traffic congestion, this strategically placed overpass enhances overall traffic flow and improves road user safety. Its construction marks a significant advancement in upgrading the region’s transport infrastructure and tackling long-standing mobility issues.


A critical component of the flyover's structure is the TensarTech TW3 retaining wall system, which supports the bridge abutments and wing walls across its 60-meter span. This system features Tensar RE Uniaxial Geogrids, made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), to form a mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) solution with long-term performance. Renowned for its strength and adaptability, the TW3 system is certified under the UK’s HAPAS BBA for use in road and bridge construction. Its dry-lay, mortar-free block system connects securely to the Tensar Geogrid layers via bodkin joints, delivering reliable soil reinforcement behind the retaining walls.


To further strengthen the road structure, Tensar TriAx® Geogrids were integrated into the pavement design for subgrade stabilisation. These geogrids help optimise base layer thickness while increasing pavement strength and durability. Their inclusion not only extends the road’s service life but also reduces the frequency of maintenance, providing a cost-effective and sustainable solution for long-term infrastructure reliability.
