Project Description:
The Helicopter Apron at the MINDEF Airforce Base in Rimba experienced structural deterioration, as visible cracks had formed along the concrete strips bordering the drainage system. These cracks were likely caused by repeated exposure to heavy helicopter loads and water infiltration, which accelerated the degradation of the existing concrete. As a result, immediate repair and reinforcement measures were necessary.
To address the issue, the client opted to enhance the concrete with Forta-Ferro® synthetic fibers as a supplementary reinforcement to the existing steel bars. Added at a dosage rate of 2 kg per cubic meter, the fibers were mixed directly into the concrete to improve its overall performance.
Forta-Ferro® fibers deliver multiple advantages in concrete reinforcement. They significantly reduce the risk of plastic shrinkage cracking and improve the slab’s flexural toughness and resistance to fatigue, making it more capable of withstanding dynamic and repetitive loading.
